Garbone Hotel Faces Having Casino License Revoked
The Gabrone Hotel in Botswana is fighting to hire enough employees to start operations by August before its casino license is revoked.
The Gabrone Hotel was issued a permit last year requiring that the casino begin operations by August.
Owner Bipin Awasthi, who purchased the hotel from the Botswana Development Bank, says that he is currently working with an unnamed South African partner who will provide and install the necessary casino equipment.
Awasthi has placed advertisements in local newspapers seeking qualified casino operators to run the games and facility.
The secretary of the Botswana Casino Control Board, John Matsheng, does not thing that the Gabrone Hotel can get things ready in time to meet the August deadline.
Awasthi claims that the problem is in hiring employees becuase each employee must be cleared with the local police.
The casino construction will occur in two phases beginning with the destruction of the hotels public bar and then the building of the casino facility and installation of casino equipment.
Awasthi is hoping that the casino will allow him to turn a profit and employ a staff od 50 people. He believes that his casino will be able to woo away clients from Gabrones two existing casinos.
